Help your students preview informational text by doing a chapter/section tour! This will be particularly beneficial if your students are using textbooks. It will help them construct meaning and improve comprehension. This pre-reading strategy will prepare students to understand what they will be reading. By following this anchor chart (after explaining and modeling) students can ask themselves questions to deepen their understanding while they read.
This strategy can be adapted to use with any text but works best with text that contains chapter introductions and summaries, chapter questions, diagrams, other graphics, and bold vocab words/concepts.
