This multi-day lesson includes a character analysis with Kiki's Delivery Service following a lesson on Maslow's Hierarchy. Students take notes and can use the provided resource link embedded in the lesson to reinforce their understanding with examples from a well-known Disney movie, Up. There are suggestions for alternatives and differentiation to this note-taking process which calls for a level of interactivity among students. The character analysis chart that is used while viewing the movie will help guide students so that they will be able to participate in future discussions of the characters and how they interact and drive the plot forward. Students must also cite specific pieces of evidence from the movie in order to support their character analysis.
This was a single component for a project-based unit about teenage experience I did with great success among my seventh graders.
Included is the following:
a cover page
a lesson plan with objectives, procedure outline, differentiation, and resource links
a character analysis chart
an alternative worksheet for note taking
