Learning to avoid conflict is a very important skill for students to learn, which will not only result in a more peaceful classroom environment, but will serve the students for the rest of their lives.
In this weeklong unit, students learn to recognize negative attention getting and some strategies to deal with it in a non-violent fashion. In addition, they learn how the skill of active listening can help diffuse a violent situation. In essence, when people feel truly understood, the angry feelings can dissipate. Finally, this unit looks at the emotion of anger, how it can lead to violence and some constructive ways to deal with it.
