Do you have children who have trouble dealing with strong emotions? This is a SEL or character education unit plan with four lessons to teach strategies that students can use to calm down when they are upset. Teach one lesson a week for a month to explicitly teach calm down strategies.
★ 4 LESSON PLANS
1. Identifying Emotions
2. Deep Breathing Strategies
3. Finding Your Happy Place
4. Counting to Ten
Each lesson plan includes engagement, procedures, and all the materials you will need to teach each lesson. Two lesson plans include stories to use to support instruction.
★NO PREP WORKSHEETS
Each lesson includes a worksheet for students to complete independently. The worksheets would work for any grade level K - 6.
★CALM DOWN CARDS
2 colorful cards to use for students who have a particularly difficult time coping with strong emotions. Each card represents a calm down strategy such as deep breathing, counting to ten, journal writing and so on. Place the cards on a metal ring or in an envelope so that students can keep them handy to reference as needed.
