If you were a fan of my Character Education: Citizenship (Following the Rules) unit
this is a wonderful follow up for that unit! :)
This 51 page download has resources to help your students work on resolving common classroom conflict with great conversational skills.
There are four days of explicit lesson plans on how to incorporate good conversational skills with friends. I've included role playing activities with student friendly text, embedded links to anchor texts and videos from You Tube, and some fun craftivities to extend this learning into writing activities.
Lesson 1: Feelin' Fine
This lesson has a You Tube clip to highlight how students speak to each other. It introduces the unit vocabulary of conflict, resolution, and feelings. Students can play a board game with the role playing cards to review the lesson.
Lesson 2: Stop, because
This lesson gives the students words to use when they are discussing conflict. The anchor text is Yelly Kelly and there are role playing cards and discussion cards to practice in small groups.
Lesson 3: Let's Have a Chat
This lesson helps students practice waiting their turn in discussions and not interrupting. There are role playing cards and talking chips for the students to use. Video clip links from You Tube help cement the understanding.
Lesson 4: Be cool, Admit, Connect....I've got your BAC friend!
These lessons are designed to help friends admit when they are wrong and helps them to reconnect with their peers. Students practice apologizing for common classroom occurrences using role playing cards.
I hope you'll enjoy using this unit as much as I enjoyed putting it together! :)
Thanks for taking a peek at the preview! ;)
