I try to front load much more of my conflict resolution instruction for my middle schoolers. I find that when we come to classroom agreements about how we should handle disagreements and conflict, were able to more easily refer to that as a mental anchor throughout the year.
This lesson requires students to think about the definition of diplomacy, and what the benefits of having this trait are. They will then brainstorm examples and nonexamples of specific actions that display diplomacy.
Students will consider how to diplomatically handle a sample situation, and then work with talking stems to brainstorm a way to deal with a conflict in their own lives.
Product includes a PPT to guide your class through this worksheet, and should facilitate a lot of discussion and sharing! Maybe even save their ideas to refer back to when you come to your first classroom conflict!
Also included is a poster for the classroom which reminds students of their talking stems to help guide them through conflict resolution.
