Product Description
After several years in the classroom, I realized that my students needed instruction on HOW to be kind, respectful, and all the things I was asking them to be. I developed these units to support teachers in teaching and rewarding great character in the classroom! Building a classroom community is one of the most important things teachers can do and it greatly impacts our students academically! This unit on LEADERSHIP is part of a year-long curriculum for teaching students how to have great character! However, this unit could also be used as a stand-alone resource for teaching all about leadership in the classroom. :)

Lesson 1-What Is A Leader?
Your students will play a fun game and then discuss what it means to be a leader. You'll create a class anchor chart about leaders in your students' lives. After your whole group lesson, students will draw and write about someone they look up to.

Lesson 2- What Makes A Great Leader?
First, your class will brainstorm things that make a great leader (is kind, follows directions, is responsible). Then your class will work together to sort by being a leader and NOT being a leader. This discussion lends itself well to classroom situations, especially when the teacher isn't looking! You will discuss HOW and WHEN student can be leaders. Then students will draw and write about being a leader and NOT being a leader.

Lesson 3-Who Can Be A Leader?
Your class will discuss situations that THEY can be leaders and who they might be leading. Then you'll introduce a new classroom tool...Letters To A Leader. Your students (and yourself) will try to catch their friends being leaders and write them letters. They'll describe HOW they were a leader and what it taught them. This is a fun and simple way to encourage your students to be leaders and to notice when their friends are being leaders!

Lesson 4- How Can I Be A Leader?
Your class will read different scenarios that could happen at school and at home and discuss them. Then students will come up with ways they could be a leader in each situation. Finally, they will complete a flipbook!

This Resource Also Includes
