Are you interested in improving students' behavior? Are you trying to teach character education, and need a good system in place for rewarding and re-teaching behaviors that doesn't take up a lot of time? Do you need help defining some of the behaviors you want to see in your classroom? Have you wanted to try doing "Student of the Month," but worry that most of your class will say, "That's not fair, you just like him/her best"?
This packet contains:
✅ 1 theme for each school month (10 months). There is a separate aspect of good character (such as manners, respect, and cooperation) along with criteria for how students can achieve the award for each month as well as discussion points. This section is 2 pages long.
✅ Assessment. There is a simple system for keeping track of how a student is doing each week, as well as a backup involving peer and self-assessment for students.
✅ Selection process. I have never had a student complain that my selection process is unfair! This is a unique but very simple system.
✅ Notices for students who need re-teaching. For each of the 10 months there is a different customized slip with a checklist of specific reasons why they were not in the running for the award each week. All you need to do is cut them out and check off which reason applies.
✅ Posters for each desired behavior for each month
✅ Happy note home for every student who exhibits the desired behavior for the month, for each month
Optional things you might use:
► Raffle tickets (these can be purchased at office supply stores)
► 10 small prizes (you probably won't even need to give away all 10 in a year)
► 1 large prize for an end of the year raffle (if your whole school does student of the month, you can ask the PTO to donate money for a bicycle)
