This is a close reading activity that asks readers to make inferences based on textual evidence to show the development of the character Rachel in "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros.
Readers are provided with key passages from the text. They are asked to highlight portions of the passage that demonstrate characterization- either directly or indirectly. Next, they will list the character traits being shown through the text and give an explanation for how the passage demonstrates characterization.
Next, readers will group character traits by similarity and explain how the traits work together to create complexity.
