This document contains one graphic organizer designed to help students determine a character's role in the text, including analyzing how the character interacts with other characters and how the character influences the plot and/or theme. The handout also requires students to support their ideas and inferences through textual evidence. It can be used with any short story or novel.
It is aligned to CCSS for ELA Literature Grades 9-10: Analyze how complex characters develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.
It is also aligned with CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.8.1-10.1 - Cite the textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
