This graphic organizer can be used to identify different character perspectives in a story. This meets Common Core State Standards RL.1, RL.3, and W.2. Students must make inferences, cite textual evidence, and use higher level thinking to complete this organizer. Students then use the information they've gathered to write an essay.
The organizer first asks students to list the idea or topic that is to be analyzed.
Then, students analyze the text to determine the different perspectives each character has.
Next, students must cite evidence to support the character perspective and then analyze the difference in perspective.
Lastly, students write a response to literature based on the information they have gathered. This includes comparing and contrasting perspectives, identifying how characters respond or change, and how conflict was created and resolved,
The organizer can be used with any text. This can be done individually, with partners, during whole group or small group instruction, or with groups of students.
The organizer can also be used by itself or with the response to literature.
