I created this project to coincide with our school’s “Dress Like A Favorite Character” day. Each student chose a favorite character from any book (picture book, chapter book, series, etc.) We then used those texts to help us investigate the following details about our characters:
Character Traits (Inside & Outside)
We used our findings to help us imagine the following:
One Way My Character is Like Me…
One Way My Character is Not Like Me…
If My Character Came to My House, We Would…
We also reflected about:
Why This Character is Important to Me
Students completed their posters by cutting and pasting each information box onto a 17” x 22” piece of poster board. We found it much easier to fit all the pieces when we arranged the poster in a landscape layout, rather than a portrait layout.
To culminate the project, I took a picture of each student dressed in character, and displayed that picture alongside the student’s poster. See the photo on the cover page for a sample view of a completed poster and in-costume picture. (It’s my sample poster, and ME dressed as Fern from Charlotte’s Web!)
I have also included a grading rubric.
** Check out the PREVIEW to see a more close-up view of a finished sample poster. My apologies for the upside-down view! I guess my photography skills need work!! **
