Mini-Lesson: Direct instruction on similes and author’s purpose, as seen in Natalie Babbit’s, Tuck Everlasting
Guided Practice: Guided practice on simile identification and analysis using examples from Natalie Babbit's, Tuck Everlasting
Student Activity/Character Study: Students can work independently or in small groups to create their own similes for characters in their independent reading book, book club book or class novel.
Although this lesson uses Tuck Everlasting as the mentor text, this can be used for all novels.
