In this standards-aligned figurative language and character study lesson, students will move up Bloom’s Taxonomy through an “I-Do, We-Do, You-Do” class structure.

This product contains the following components:

Mini-Lesson: Direct instruction on similes and author’s purpose, as seen in Natalie Babbit’s, Tuck Everlasting

Guided Practice: Guided practice on simile identification and analysis using examples from Natalie Babbit's, Tuck Everlasting

Student Activity/Character Study: Students can work independently or in small groups to create their own similes for characters in their independent reading book, book club book or class novel.

Teacher Tips:

Although this lesson uses Tuck Everlasting as the mentor text, this can be used for all novels.
