Character Studies - Session 05 - Using Theories about Characters to Predict
This is for Unit 03 - Character Studies - the new 3rd grade Reading Units of Study by Lucy Calkins and the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP).
This unit covers characters - including traits, motivations, predictions, story mountains, challenges, roles, interactions, author's message / lessons, author's craft, comparing characters, and using evidence from the text in arguments.
Because many of the components are visual and the verbiage is written on the screen, this is ideal for classrooms with hearing impaired or deaf students. Interpreters will be grateful because they can point to the the words and get a break from signing.
NOTE: The preview and thumbnails are just a few slides from Session 01 of a previous unit, but all the files follow the same format with Connection, Teaching, Active Engagement, Link, MidWorkshop Teaching Point, and Share.
NOTE: These are for the NEW 2015 Reading Units of Study just published this summer by Lucy Calkins and the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP).
NOTE: These lessons are in no way meant to replace the substantial detail, teachers notes, and digital resources available for the unit. This is only meant as a presentation supplement to what you should purchase.
This is a SMART Board presentation (only) for this lesson. You must have SMART Board software to open and use this presentation.
It incorporates all the elements of the Reading Workshop - Connection, Teaching, Active Engagement, etc.
It includes advance prep guidance, teacher's notes, and a slide that correlates with the material in the book.
Comments and questions are always appreciated.
