Good readers get to know the characters in a story. Not only does this make reading the book more enjoyable, but also offers readers insight into theme, plot, character motives and character perspectives. In addition, having a strong understanding of a book’s characters allows readers to engage in discussions focused on prediction, inference, and drawing conclusions. This packet includes student-friendly language for analyzing various aspects of a single character in literature. They will look for details (details icon) and then use those details to draw inferences about personality traits (convergence icon), notice and analyze contrasts to character's typical behavior (paradox icon), note changes (relate across time icon) and more!
Using this character study graphic organizer is easy and doing so will provide opportunities for your students to cite the text evidence when explaining their thinking.
