I used this project as a culminating activity for the character study unit; however, it could be used in lessons throughout the year. After students read books on or study a character, they write down clues to describe their character. I had my students work with partners. They can describe physical traits, internal traits, character habits, or any other identifying characteristics. Then students write and draw their clues. On the last page they provide the answer. I had my students write as if they were the character. For example a student wrote, I cause a lot of trouble. The man with the yellow hat owns me. When students finish coloring and writing, they cut on the dashed line, then staple at the top. The pages are staggered to form a flipbook. My students loved putting together the clues and guessing the character.
