Handouts to find the best supporting evidence
A sort for the character traits: greedy, compassionate, timid, optimistic, rash, and insensitive.
I introduce the students to the character traits greedy, compassionate, timid, optimistic, rash, and insensitive before presenting this PowerPoint. I have them complete the sort that I have included in this product.
Once the students understand the meaning of the character traits, I present the PowerPoint. After reading a passage, I have the students look at their sort and determine which character trait best fits the character in the passage. I pass out the handouts for the students to complete while they view the PowerPoint, and figure out the best text evidence.
I also print the “Nate” and “Becky” handout--double sided. This way, students can look back in the text and highlight/underline their evidence for those slides.
