Product Description
Great for back to school! Fantastic activity for character education and building classroom community! These full-size character traits discussion cards were created as an alternative to task cards, as not every teacher or classroom is able to effectively use task cards. Discussion cards are perfect for small groups...I like to use them in independent groups while I am working with my guided reading groups. They are also ideal when projected on a whiteboard to structure whole-group discussions. They can also easily be shared with student devices digitally for independent workers. These cards are beautiful when printed out in color and placed on an interactive bulletin board for student use. Use one per day for a whole month for morning work. The uses are endless!

PLEASE NOTE: If you already have my Character Traits Task Cards, these are the same 24 passages, but with accompanying photographs.

Understanding character traits is an essential literacy skill for students. Recognizing behaviors associated with certain character traits is not always intuitive for our students; therefore, they need lots of opportunities to practice. Acquiring the vocabulary with which they are able to describe character traits is critical as well. In addition, they also need to learn to cite evidence to support their answers, and these discussion cards are designed to meet all these needs and more!

Each full-size discussion card features a high-res photograph (which supports our visual learners) as well as a short passage describing someone. Students are asked to identify the character trait being described and to give support for their answers.

These can be used as a whole group lesson to introduce character traits, or to discuss how to support an answer. While an answer key is provided, any reasonable answer for which a student can justify and provide evidence should be accepted, since so many character traits are synonymous.

If you'd like to save ink, paperless options are described in the "How to Use This Product" section. Also, you can print multiple pages to a sheet by selecting this function when you print. The discussion cards also look great printed in grayscale.
