Books are amazing tools to show students about character traits within fiction. This resource allows students to focus on 8 character traits that they can foster and build for themselves. By doing this work as a class, you will create an environment with a shared understanding and language unique to the students in your room. Because of this, students can build strong relationships with their classmates and teachers by going through the work together as a community.
This resource is meant to be student driven and created- there are scaffolds included in the form of discussion protocols and prompts, vocabulary, posters for deepening the understanding of the trait, opportunities to practice in the classroom and school community, and reflection opportunities.
The 8 traits that are focused in this resource are: compassion, respect, integrity, innovation, inclusive, assertive, determination, appreciatve
+7 different discussion protocols and 6 prompts per trait (PowerPoint Presentation)- text can be edited
+8 posters for additional information (1 per trait)
+7 preselected related word cards for each trait (blank) for students to create definitions to along with +a definition document to help guide the discussion; a pocket is included to hold the cards as well
+8 parts of speech posters (1 per each trait)
+8 challenges (1 per trait) for students to work on, reflect, and share with peers
+a guide to help you roll this work on in your classroom (disclosure: this resource is meant to be created with students, so there is a lot of flexibility, but there are also elements that may seem incomplete because, well, they are until you include your students in the process)
I hope you enjoy doing this work with your students! It is enlightening and powerful when you give your students the voice to explain what these words mean and look to them.
