I used this in my student teaching semester in a first grade classroom. Have students select a book from their level or a book that they have previously read (I found that this activity works best if they have already read the book). They can go back and peek through the book to remind themselves of who the character is and where the setting is and then they must develop a sentence for each using key details from the text to support their sentences. The standard this is designed for is RL.1.3.
