This is a graphic organizer that is intended to be used with my Characteristics of Democracy PowerPoint presentation. The PowerPoint explains the concepts of the US Constitution, popular sovereignty, Congress, the President, the Supreme Court, Checks and Balances, Separation of Powers, and the 3 branches of government. The PowerPoint relates each one of these concepts to parts of a McDonald's restaurant, in order to make them relevant to students and to model the activity for them. This product provides a place for students to take notes on each concept and to record the part of McDonald's that each concept relates to. After the presentation, students can be instructed to create their own metaphor for the concepts reviewed in the PowerPoint, a space is provided for students to create components of their own metaphor. Next is a section for students to write a sentence relating each concept to a part of their metaphor. Finally, a section for reflection asks students to complete a written response explaining whether or not the whole could function without one of the parts. Aligned with Common Core College and Career Readiness Anchor standards for Language.
