This is a project that I designed to give my students the opportunity to earn extra credit and to review a marking period's content. It is a choice menu modeled after a dinner menu. It was designed to address various multiple intelligences. I have made available the word document so you may edit it as you see fit (especially the section to change your textbook).
-Students must complete the appetizer where they define such words as those related to cell parts, characteristics of life, types of cells (eukaryotic and prokaryotic) and mitosis.
-Students then choose a dinner entree from three choices: read their textbook chapters/sections (change according to your textbook) and create an outline, draw pictures and provide a description, or design a poem or song regarding each topic.
-Students then choose two side dishes: create a venn diagram comparing and contrasting the plant and animal cell and another comparing and contrasting eukaryotes and prokaryotes, discuss the three parts of the cell theory, defend to an alien that plants are living, convince another single celled organism to join together to form a colony.
-Finally, students must have dessert where they create a test to assess the teacher's knowledge of the subjects.
Students love having choices and enjoy completing this project.
If completed in class, this project would take multiple days.
