This two-week study on Middle School Life Science Standard 1.1 gives students opportunities to explore, think critically, discuss/debate, and research to work with the content in a meaningful way.

Standard: MS-LS1-1: Conduct an investigation to provide evidence that living things are made of cells; either one cell or many different numbers and types of cells.
[Clarification Statement: Emphasis is on developing evidence that living things are made of cells, distinguishing between living and non-living things, and understanding that living things may be made of one cell or many and varied cells.]

- Practice applying characteristics of living things to various subjects

Days 5-7
Living Things Investigations
- Credible Sources (PowerPoint Presentation)
- Investigate to prove/disprove statements re: living things (students need access to Internet and/or library)

Days 8-9
Unicellular organisms
- Create a Facebook profile page for the single-cell organism of choice (rubric included)

Days 10-11
Performance Assessment
- Select performance expectation assessment option
