Objective: students able to identify the seven characteristics of a civilization
This game is a board game that focuses on the characteristics of civilization for an ancient history class. The game involves cards with features and non/features of civilizations. This game will allow students to think critically and gain knowledge about distinct features of civilizations in history.
The game is based around the idea that the students need to prove that a fictional place, named Saltburnotamia is a civilization. To do this they need to successfully find and classify the seven characteristics of a civilization.
Included in this package is a Powerpoint Presentation that could be used/edited for your class. Also, there is a worksheet where students define the characteristics, identify examples and draw pictures of the characteristics. There is also a link to a video and accompanying short activity that could be used before the presentation or as a warm-up. Here is a link to the video:
I have now included a final project that brings these activities together into a creative booklet. Students create a booklet, where they analyze sources to classify the 7 characteristics of a civilization.
This product now includes a backboard activity that can be used throughout the unit and while studying different civilizations. I have also added a KWL activity to start the unit off.
This is a fun lesson that helps students to identify the characteristics of a civilization and think critically.
