Using Aesop's fables, the students will characterize an animal in each story in the attached chart. This could be done individually, in pairs, small groups, or used in stations or centers. Discussions can be completed afterwards allowing for reflection, follow-up, feedback, and further insight. Students can also be given each of the fables and highlight the facts that lead them to finding the lesson/moral.
The document is editable, so teachers can change for various student abilities and levels. Scaffolding includes: giving students options of traits to choose from, taking away the given character and having them choose their own, requiring quotations instead of text descriptions for evidence, assigning a certain number of fables to create, etc.
This activity can be used after teaching characterization or as a separate review and follow-up activity.
I also have the same fables and a worksheet & answer key for themes:
Please rate & give feedback if you use it or find this helpful! My students love reading fables and really enjoy this activity!
