Characterization Bundle Pack with tons of Resources!
This graphic organizer, using the acronym STEALS, allows students to deeply and rigorously analyze the characterization of various characters in a text.
Students are asked to identify the character, the example of characterization (STEALS-What the character says, thinks, effect of others, actions, looks, and what is said about the character by other characters), cite specific text evidence, and infer a trait based on the characterization.
The second page of this organizer, which can be used in a multitude of ways, asks students to write a character sketch on one of the characters. Specific directions are given to write this resonse to literature using the information students have gathered on the graphic organizer.
This organizer can be used with any story. The organizer can be used as a formative or summative assessment and can be done individually, during whole or small group instruction, with a partner, or with a small group.
The organizer is alligned to meet the demands of Common Core State Standards RL.1 and RL.3. Various writing standards can be applied to the character sketch as well depending on how you use it.
