Want a completely different characterization activity? Well here it is ;). My students struggled with characterization, so I made this activity to help. In the zip file, you will find the following:
1) Characterization Overview Handout
This includes the types of characterization and gives a breakdown of each.
2) A fully editable PowerPoint that has links to the videos. This PowerPoint is meant to be used on a SMARTboard so you can write in the boxes. Examples are at the end in case you need them. They are examples of what students usually give.
3) Follow along student sheet that goes with the PowerPoint. In the preview, it has the Madea sheet twice. The next page has the one for Glozell. I make front and back copies and then cut them in half to save paper.
For the lesson, go over the characterization handout. Then watch the first video; it is from Madea goes to jail where she totals the car in the K-Mart parking lot. Then, give students time to fill out their sheets and then take volunteers and fill it out on the PPT on the board. Do the same for the next video, which is the Glozell video "This is Why I'm Fat"...don't let the title fool you! The student reactions are priceless!

Side Note: I put the "Method of Characterization" box in the middle because if a student needs to write a little more than the box provides, it gives them space instead of them cramming it in or making it illegible.
