Product Description
This resource may be utilized during your reading conference., mini-lesson, individual, or group conference. This resource is created to be used on the spot or you may plan ahead by looking through the different skills with strategies that are addressed. Each skill states what an author does followed by strategies toward developing that skill. You may also notice this is valuable in student writing. These strategies transfer to writing. We follow the reading workshop conference protocol of research/connect, compliment, decide, teach, coach/active involvement, link. As part of research or as a student reads aloud, you show the skill in literature and follow up with explaining the “why” of it. The post it notes are your conference talking points which in turn are given to the student as a takeaway from the conference. The student may place the post it in their novel or journal as a reminder of the focus of the conference, the takeaway. This leaves tracks of their thinking like footprints in the sand. You may also have the student journal on this topic or do self-reflections showing the before and after of attempting to apply the strategy. Get creative with how you want your students to demonstrate their knowledge or application of the skills and strategies. You may have them present their newly practiced skill through Educreations or Flipgrid as a possible way to teach other students. Also included is a list of picture books and authors that will be helpful as mentor texts.
