This product can be used for any and all short stories. Included in this product is a PowerPoint "mini-lecture" on types of characters and how characters are developed. It is suitable for grades 9-12 because you can omit any section you feel your students aren't ready for or don't fit what you are covering in class. Next are two activities. First, there is a chart for students to complete (individually or in small groups) that requires them to find evidence from the story that supports (1) the type of development such as words, action, thoughts, etc., and (2) a specific character trait. After this chart is completed a small group or whole class discussion--or a Socratic Seminar--would be ideal. Next is a document that gives the students two different templates for outlining their essay on how characterization enhances the theme of the story. A list of character traits is included.
