This is an activity intended to teach students about characterization, what to look for, and how to predict how a character may change throughout the story. This is intended to accompany a novel study of 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher.
Students should have some understanding of what characterization is before beginning this activity.
The activity is designed as a graphic organizer that will be used at two different points in the novel so that students can make and later confirm predictions about the main character. It was designed for a 9th grade class of pull-out special education students, and therefore could be appropriate for younger students as well.
