Literature circle activities that are designed to engage all members of the group are vital for effective learning. This is a set of selected stories from a literature anthology but it does not matter which short stories you choose. The activities are adaptable to any short stories you choose. Teaching strategies being used are jigsawing and journal writing. Use whatever type of journal style you use or have students write a summary and a reflection in the journal as you would for Balanced Literacy. This is a great way for students to be exposed to many stories within a short period of time. It also helps to develop cooperative learning, listening & speaking skills and improve reading comprehension.
