Product Description
As part of the Common Core, students are expected to describe characters, setting, and events using evidence from the text to support their descriptions.

This file contains different activities where students are required to do just that!

The activities in this file include:

Character Characteristics 1…………………………………3

Character Characteristics 2…………………………………4

Setting Characteristics 1…………………………………….5

Setting Characteristics 2……………………………………6

Character Mobile………………………….………….…….7

Build a Setting…………………………………….………..12

Story Element Paper Chain……………………….………16

Visualizing Through Senses……………………….……....20

Snow (passage)……………………………………..……….21

Snow (answer key)………………………………………….24

Setting Characteristics 3.................................................25

Embedded within some of the activities is the skill of identifying the author's use of the five senses to help visualize the text.

There are different graphic organizers, which can be used with students' independent reading books or with teacher-assigned books. Because of this flexibility, the organizers can be used when differentiating instruction.

Also included are activities that allow the students to use their creative side by making projects such as mobiles, actual settings from books, and paper chains to demonstrate their learning. With each of these projects, the students are first required to show their understanding in a graphic organizer before moving to the project.

Finally, there are "Teacher Notes" pages for the projects, identifying what materials are needed and any suggestions I may have for the project.

All of the activities require the students to practice the very important Common Core expectation of using text evidence to support their thinking!
