These character role cards are designed to engage young readers in the “thoughts” of the writer. Learning about each type of character allows a glimpse into the world of the writer and in turn takes character development to a very different level.
I would teach each character authentically during the reading of a class novel, book club, or small strategy group. To truly understand each character you really need to find them within the pages of a chapter book, where characters dig deeper and conflicts are grander.
Over the past 30 years I have studied and discussed the various types of characters in a book. I have scanned books and documents trying to define each type of character to assist little minds in understanding these different roles characters take in stories. I have no idea where I found these, but I know they are a combination of many different worlds.
