Charles Dickens and A Christmas Carol, 5 Graphic Organizers and 2 ELA Activities includes:
1) Five graphic organizers for students to complete. Students must have internet access to complete the organizers. A list of trusted (and hopefully, permanent) websites is included. Please do let me know if any of the websites are not available.
The five organizers are:
Charles Dickens Early Life;
Charles Dickens as a Teenager and Young Man;
Charles Dickens: World Famous Novelist;
Charles Dickens’ Novels and His Legacy;
A Christmas Carol.
Each organizer has an answer key for objective answers. One or two questions on the organziers are subjective in nature;
2) An excerpt from one of my biographical resources about the life of Dickens (with slight revisions) titled (“Charles Dicken, Novelist”. Students read the text and complete the summarizing activity. Students may also find some information needed for the graphic organizers within this text. An answer key is included for the activity;
3) A description of Ebenezer Scrooge - an excerpt from the first page of “A Christmas Carol” (in the public domain). The excerpt is on the left side of the page and vocabulary questions on the right. You may decide to read the excerpt with the students or let more advanced students read it on their own. It would serve as a good introduction to the character of Scrooge. An answer key is also included for this activity.
In total there are 7 student work pages, a page of text,
7 answer keys, and a page of website links.
Please have a look at my other Charles Dickens resources, two biographical units for different levels, and a bundle of the two which can be purchased for a discount:
