This Word document is a synopsis of the plot of the Roald Dahl novel in "Fill in the Blanks" format. Students demonstrate their understanding of the plot by completing the cloze test.
The activity is divided into individual chapter units. A word bank is provided at the end of each chapter to assist students. There are 16 pages for students to complete.
This could be used for assessment or for revision. I generally use it immediately after we've read a chapter to ensure that everyone is familiar with the story. This yields greater success with follow-on activities (questions, written assignments etc..)
As a specialist teacher for weaker students, I find this approach a very useful support for those who need scaffolding to help them focus on core plot elements. It's an activity that students really enjoy as it's not as difficult as writing their own summaries / making notes.
Students are actively learning when completing the exercise.
The solution is also included (11 pages).
Download the preview file to see the cloze test for Chapter 1 and its solution. Even if you don't purchase my product, it will give you a useful exercise for the first chapter.
