This Introduction to Outlining is a strong and pleasant large group activity to activate prior knowledge before reading the novel.
It also adds visual and kinesthetic approaches to the auditory teacher prompts as it introduces a beginner's skill of outlining.
Most urban and suburban children know little about farming. In a group brainstorming activity, however, they become remarkably familiar with farms.
Two Outlines are included:
1. A Simple Outline (5 points for 4 subtopics) for beginning or younger students
2. A more Advanced Outline (about 10 points for 4 subtopics) that introduces a more complicated structure at the end.
The clear and roomy outline is contained on one page.
A KEY of possible Answers/Prompts is included.
It is our hope that your students enjoy and learn a valuable reading and writing strategy from this activity.
