Anna Freud expanded on her father’s Psychodynamic theory of Personality. In 1936 she elaborated on and further explored his proposed ‘defence mechanisms’ that arise as a result of conflict experienced among the Id, Ego and Superego. This is a chatterbox template that students can cut out and use to form scenarios and discuss examples relating to defense mechanisms (contains instructions). The illustration style is representative of ‘ancient psychology’ meaning theories and data that is still relevant but that most of the discipline has moved on from. The activity is based on the premise that a tactile, imaginative experience will generate greater interest and stronger memory in students of Psychology. This should be a simple but fun activity delivered alongside a Theories of Personality module.
