Although some students may think otherwise, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales does have significance today and when you look at the characters closely you really see how interestingly human they are! Chaucer also requires quite a bit of close reading to get the 'jokes' or commentary. This assignment then is a fun way of going into the text and having students research the period and creatively envision the lines. By designing cards based on the Prologue's characters, students are able to see how Chaucer worked his humor and observations in a very pungent and effective way. This assignment is tailored for advanced level students.
