Lesson 1: The Number System
A Cheat Sheet is an all-in-one, single-page graphic organizer covering the big topics in the Algebra 1 curriculum. Each Cheat Sheet includes important vocabulary, key concepts, and guided examples. There is a set of practice problems included with each sheet that provides leveled and skill-based practice. Included in the download is a PDF and editable WORD version of the Cheat Sheet and Practice Problems, along with a full answer key.
This lesson reviews sets of numbers students have worked with in the past and introduces several new sets: rational and irrational numbers. Additional items are explored in this first lesson to prepare students for future lessons involving integer operations and the order of operations. The main focus of this Cheat Sheet is on vocabulary acquisition for the sets of numbers in the real number system. The top portion of the sheet provides students with a table for recording a definition and a numerical example for each of the vocabulary terms. The bottom portion of the sheet is a graphic organizer allowing the students to see how the sets of numbers relate to one another. The practice problems cover sets of numbers, always/sometimes/never items, and sums and products of rational and irrational numbers.
