Set an immediate tone for learning in the classroom by having an established procedure for each child as soon as they come in. This procedure also creates a calm routine for entering the classroom. The children know exactly what to do even before they shed their backpacks and jackets. One child can be assigned to greet others as they come in and remind them to check in at both stations. This idea can easily be tailored for age, reading level, and level of independence.
Part I details the procedure to STATION 1 (check-in) and STATION 2 (think).
Part 2 provides additional examples of STATION 2 by topic.
