PowerPoint description: This PowerPoint has 71 slides and should be used over several class periods. I usually can make it last for three 50 minute periods accompanied by my Checking Account Activities. It covers writing checks, reconciling a bank statement, endorsing checks, making deposits and filling out a deposit slip, and different types of accounts. There are several slides that you can use with a SMART Board to write on for examples. Please remember to download the FREE Excel file to use with the Reconciling example on slides 46 and 47.
Activity 1 description: In this activity, students will write four checks. With the first check, I really try to spell out how to fill out the check. I give less directions with each check. Students must use critical thinking skills to figure out the information. There is one sheet of directions and two sheets with checks for them to fill out.
Activity 2 description: In this activity, students will fill out a check register. With the first entry, I really try to spell out how to fill out the register. I give less directions with each entry. Students must use critical thinking skills to figure out the information. There is one sheet of directions and an Excel file for the check register.
Activity 3 description: In this activity, students will reconcile a check register with a bank statement. This zip file includes an Excel file for the bank statement, an Excel file for the check register, a PDF reconciling form and a Word Document of directions. You can customize the dates for the current year and the store names to your community or you can leave the information that I already have provided.
Activity 4 description: In this activity, students will endorse three checks and fill out deposit slips. It is a Word 2010 file.
