Product Description
Lab that allows students to conduct a simple chemical reaction. Students can identify the signs of a chemical reaction, make observations, and find out if their experiment follows the law of conservation of mass. Uses a cloze procedure to ensure students are following along (cloze answers are on teacher info page in bold). Relatively easy and a class favorite!
Materials:
(per lab group)
1 sandwich bag
1 spoonful of baking soda
1 spoonful of calcium chloride (it is often in sidewalk salt).
10 mL graduated cylinders & pipettes
1 Dixie cup
10 mL pH indicator (this lab mentions bromothymol blue
(BTB), but I’ve also used purple cabbage juice or phenol red)
(per class)
