Begin your chemical reactions and balancing equations unit with an inquiry investigation that has students using different types of text to learn how to balance chemical equations.
Students will pull out details, look for patterns, and do comparisons to try and figure out why atoms are not created or destroyed during a chemical reaction. This is a great way to incorporate the Science Common Core standards for reading different types of text*.
