This PowerPoint presentation introduces students to the concept of chemical reactions. Students are given definitions and explanations of physical and chemical properties, physical and chemical changes, chemical reactions, reactants, products, etc. Students will learn about the 4 main evidences of chemical reactions (color change, temperature change, production of a gas, production of a precipitate).
Students are then challenged to read several explanations of changes and determine whether each is a physical change or a chemical change. This can be done as a class discussion or you can have students write down their answers for a graded activity. Following the 30 question slides are answer slides, allowing you to be able to go back afterwards and discuss student responses for each.
The end of the PPT provides students with 17 vocabulary words and definitions used throughout the presentation and a chemical reactions unit. This allows you to be able to easily access the vocabulary to share with students and have them write the words and definitions down if you would like.
