Chapter 10: The concepts of heat, temperature and energy are introduced and the students view a calorimetry simulation. The concept of chemical reactions is expanded to include an energy term. Reactions are classified as either being exergonic (producing energy) or endergonic (using energy). An animation is used involving a simulation of particle movement related to temperature. This product uses the interactive capabilities of a computer. The chapter has an embedded end-of-chapter quiz, uses graphics, animations, user interactivity or embedded video on almost all pages. This product is designed to provide bite-sized pieces of information in an effort to enhance the scientific literacy of our next generation, not to overwhelm them with sheer quantity of information. Chapter 10 section titles: Heat, Temperature and Energy • Specific Heat • Calorimetry • Thermochemical Equations • Heat of Combustion • Heat of Solution • Energy Changes and Phase Changes • Hess’ Law • Thermochemistry Quiz. This product works both on a Macintosh or PC computer.
