This is a two-part lesson-activity in which students learn about energy within forced state changes and then apply the concepts to the process of home-made Ice Cream. It works well as a supplemental review towards the middle of the school year, such as an end of semester Christmas (Holiday) party. The product contains two files: Instructor Guide and Presentation.
The instructor guide is as shown in the preview file. The actual presentation version you will teach from looks the same, except for: wherever you see drawings or an added gray typed font.
The lesson really does rely on showing progressive illustrations built in with interactive question and discussion with the students, so be prepared to do some writing and drawing. Including involving the students in the drawing.
Some type of user interface
(smartboard, tablet, touch screen, etc is needed to effectively teach the lesson portion.)
As far as running the writing/drawing program: it can be opened and run
on any version of smart notebook, including the free online http://express.smarttech.com
Its also possible to omit all or portions of the lesson and just use the printouts to prepare and setup the activity only, such as might be done with lower grade levels or if time is limited. In this case the activity could be successfully carried out with as young as 3rd or 4th graders.
