This PPT lesson features a very beautiful & haunting, rare Cherokee, Native American lullaby in which elementary music students in grades 2-4 will practice using new rhythm "ta-a." Activities in this lesson include an Indian Brave icon beat tapping chart, 2 different rhythm icon tapping charts (1 using "tied Indian Brave icons" to prep. the new rhythm pattern and the other using a "single Indian Brave icon" with an empty space after it to show the representation for the new rhythm pattern), and practicing reading the melodic notation in various ways on the staff with emphasis on the new rhythm pattern "ta-a." Students will also have the opportunity to explore and experiment with seeing the difference between "tied ta's" and a "ta-a" in real rhythm notation icons as they mysteriously appear (with the click of the mouse :) on 2 of the rhythm tapping chart slides. They will LOVE the surprise and suspense elements to this fun and engaging lesson.
