I start the year with a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Theme to help introduce my students to the letters of the alphabet. I also want to give them practice identifying the letters in their own name. This class book was a great activity for both goals. I gave each student a copy of pg. 2 and had them write their name on the line to complete the sentence. (ex. Here comes Amy up the coconut tree.) After that they colored the palm tree with crayons. Then I had them find the letters to spell their name with foam ABC stickers that I got at Walmart. To differentiate the activity I had envelopes with name letters already inside for my students who struggled with name and letter recognition. When we finished the pages I bound them all together with the cover attached and placed the book in our reading center. It is a well loved book in my classroom.
