This Chihuly Project is not only beautiful (every visitor to our school comments on the sculptures, our local gardens and parents have offered to purchase sculptures and the lesson plan has been requested too many times to count!) but it also provides an amazing lesson in group art, a chance to study a contemporary artist and reflection on "recycled" art. I saw the end results of a Chihuly inspired water bottle sculpture in a workshop I did not get to attend but was so enamored with the possibilities of such a project that I set out to figure it out myself. This lesson plan is the result of hours of experimentation (in fact, I wish that I could have found a set lesson plan to reduce the hours spent in trial and error!). In this full lesson plan I provide detailed step-by-step instructions and many visuals to go with those instructions (I'm a visual learner!), vocabulary, essential questions, etc. Enjoy this project from the elementary art classroom of Claire Dunaway Cyr!
