Child Marriage. The video takes you on a journey around the world and explores the lives of four girls who were from families in such dire need that they sold off one of their daughters into child marriage. It is haunting, shocking, and very, very sad. However, at the same time it opens your students' eyes into the realities of the world.
If you are looking to open your students' eyes to what is happening in the world they are living in then this should help. To be used in conjunction with the PBS documentary Child Brides: Stolen Lives found at http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/341/
When I use this with my students I stream the video from the PBS web site.
Included in this product are a KWL for students to fill out based on their background knowledge of child marriage, four profile boxes with questions to answer from the video about each girl along the journey, and a follow-up writing activity where students choose from a variety of options to inform others about the tragedies of child marriage.
